New Westminster is the oldest city in the province and it is built like it. The street grid climbs steeply from the Fraser waterfront up to Uptown, a lot of the buildings predate loading bays entirely, and the lanes behind them are narrow. Queensborough, confusingly, is not attached to the rest of the city at all — it is across a channel on Lulu Island, next to Richmond.
Which means that in New Westminster, distance is rarely the problem. Getting the food the last fifty metres is the problem.
What we need to know about your building
- Is there vehicle access at the level the food is going to, or is there a flight of stairs in the way?
- Is there a lane, a loading zone, or only metered street parking — and on which side of the hill?
- If it is a heritage building or a converted space, where is the nearest power outlet to the serving point?
- Is the event in Queensborough? That is a different drive and a different route, so say so.
None of this is an obstacle. It is just the difference between a buffet that is standing and dressed when your guests walk in and one that is still being carried up a staircase.
Where it comes from
There is one Ojas kitchen, at 1531 Johnston Rd in White Rock, and everything we cater is cooked there on the morning of your event. New Westminster is north of us — Highway 99 and the Alex Fraser Bridge onto Highway 91, or the Pattullo Bridge from Surrey, whichever the morning favours. We have no location in the city; we drive in.
Which format fits a tight site
Boxed delivery is the format a difficult building rewards most — individually packed, labelled meals, carried in cleanly and cleared fast, in compostable bowls with cutlery and cups. For a staffed event, buffet is usually the right call: we arrive ahead of your guests, build and dress the stations, serve and replenish, then clear up, and we would rather have the extra half hour than ask a venue for something it cannot give.
Plated service is available and works well at the riverfront and hotel venues, where there is somewhere for our team to actually stand and plate. In a third-floor heritage walk-up with no service access, we will tell you honestly that buffet is the better evening.
What gets booked here
A mix of office lunches for the Uptown and Columbia Street offices, school and campus events with allergy-aware labelling and nut-free options as standard, weddings and receptions at the waterfront venues as buffet or plated service, and family gatherings in community halls and homes.
Menus and diets
Every menu on the catering menus page is a starting point: we extend it, swap dishes out, or build something new around your guests, in whatever cuisine the occasion wants. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, keto and low-carb options run through all of them with a dietary key, everything is labelled, and we cook around allergies you tell us about when you book. Every sauce and every protein is made in our kitchen with no preservatives.
Pricing and next steps
Per guest, based on the menu and the level of service, set out line by line in your quote before you commit to anything. Delivery needs less notice than a staffed event; for buffet or plated, book as early as you can, since dates fill and we may want to arrange a tasting at the kitchen first.
Send the date, the guest count and the address — including the floor — and a real person replies within one working day. Or call +1 (778) 957-7213. The rest of the region: catering areas.
