Every kitchen ends the day with food that is perfectly good and will not be good tomorrow. For most of them the answer is a bin.
We list ours on Too Good To Go instead — surprise bags of what is left, at a fraction of the price, collected at the end of service. It is the least complicated good idea we have come across: the food is already made, the alternative is waste, and somebody eats well for very little.
Across both kitchens that has added up to more than fifteen hundred meals saved from waste, and something close to four tonnes of CO₂e that did not need to happen. The numbers are on our commitments page and we keep them current.
The unexpected part was who turns up. A surprise bag is how a lot of people meet us, and a fair few of them come back and order properly. Doing the obviously right thing turned out to be the cheapest marketing we have ever done, which is not why we did it, but it is worth saying out loud.
